Dez Wells Denied Waiver To Play This Season For Maryland

Dez Wells transferred to Maryland last month, but the NCAA has denied his request for a waiver that would have made him eligible to play this season.

"I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen," Wells said recently. "The anticipation does kind of build up. You kind of get like anxiety a little bit."

Wells, who was dismissed by Xavier after his freshman season, has three years of eligibility remaining.

Virginia Tech added a commitment from Ben Emelogu, a 6-foot-5 guard out of South Grand Prairie (TX) High School.

Emelogu turned down scholarship offers from Marquette, Washington, Texas-Christian, Weber State, Albany, Texas-Arlington and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Emelogu brings Texas Tech’s number of commitments for the 2013 class to four.

Martin Twins Commit To N.C. State

Caleb and Cody Martin, twins from Mocksville (NC) Davie County, are headed to North Carolina State.

"When we went down there for team camp, we had just taken a visit to (North) Carolina," Caleb Martin said Thursday.

"It just felt different. I felt more comfortable at N.C. State. I liked the coaches there, and we feel comfortable with the players there."

The Martin twins, both 6-foot-7, held offers from Tennessee, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth.

Maurice Kirby, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward, gave a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech on Thursday.

Kirby originally committed to Arizona State when he was a sophomore at Poston Butte (AZ) High School.

Kirby held offers from Brown, Northern Arizona and Loyola Chicago.

Karl Towns Jr., the nation's top-ranked prospect for the recruiting class of 2015, will visit Duke for Midnight Madness on Oct. 19.

Towns will be joined on the visit by Tyus Jones, the top-ranked point guard in the class of 2014, and Jahlil Okafor, the No. 1 center in the class of 2014.

Julius Randle Narrows List To Six, Schedules Visit To Florida

Julius Randle has trimmed his list to six schools: Kentucky, N.C. State, Florida, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma.

"Yes, it's down to those six schools," Randle said. "I talked to the schools that are out and that's who is left."

Randle is scheduled to visit Florida later this week.

"They came in for the in home and told me that the would like me to go ahead and visit this weekend," said Randle. "So, I'm going to go ahead and visit Florida this weekend."

Harrison Twins To Announce Decision Thursday

Andrew and Aaron Harrison, consensus top-10 prospects in the class of 2013, will announce their college decision this coming Thursday on ESPNU.

“Thursday will be the toughest decision I ever had to make but I’m looking forward to it,” Andrew Harrison tweeted.

The Harrisons are expected to choose between Kentucky and Maryland.
